Non-Exempt Retirement - 4

In certain circumstances, the SRPS allows a member to purchase service from previous state employment when in their final year of employment prior to retirement.  The purchased service may allow a member to reach the Rule of 90 or the 10 years needed to retire at age 65.  Please refer to the Benefits Handbook for specific details regarding the types of service that may be purchased.

There are two ways in which service may be transferred to the State Retirement & Pension System.  Members may be eligible to transfer service credit from one system administered by the SRPS to another system that is also administered by the State Retirement & Pension System.  Credit transfers may also apply if a member of a pension system that is operated under the laws of any political subdivision of Maryland.  Refer to the Benefits Handbook for specific details regarding the forms needed as well as the timeframes in which the transfer of service must take place.
